The Senate (upper house of parliament) of Mexico has approved amendments to the constitution that would ban the production and distribution of electronic cigarettes, vapes, synthetic drugs and precursors for their creation in the country.
“The Senate of the Republic, by 110 votes in favor, 5 against and 2 abstentions, approved constitutional reforms aimed at prohibiting and punishing activities related to vaping devices and the illegal use of fentanyl,” the upper house of the Mexican parliament said in a statement. It is proposed to amend the fourth and fifth articles of the Mexican constitution.
“Any activity related to electronic cigarettes, vaping devices and other similar systems or devices will be subject to sanctions,” the Senate said in a statement.
They added that “the production, distribution and disposal of toxic substances, chemical precursors, the illegal use of fentanyl and other unauthorized synthetic drugs are also prohibited and punished.” The ban also included “production, domestic and foreign trade, work or any other activity related to the specified topics.”
