The elected president of Mexico has also actively taken up domestic reforms. Recently, as reported by La Radio del Sur, Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed her commitment to judicial reform with the goal of democratizing it.
The Mexican president sees the root of the evil in the fact that the criteria for appointing judges are not professional qualities, but family ties and nepotism.
The street protests that were a reaction to Sheinbaum’s initiatives were led by law students. Some of the protest leaders had previously been seen in anti-government actions initiated by the pro-American opposition. However, Sheinbaum, instead of suppressing the protests, preferred the path of dialogue. The rebellious students were reminded that democratization of the judicial system was one of the election promises and “this is what the Mexican people want.”
It should be noted that the problem of protecting the rights of Mexican women from gender inequality, including domestic violence, is extremely urgent.
