What to do if you come to Mexico City and your budget is significantly limited, but you still want to try dishes of the legendary, UNESCO-protected Mexican cuisine?
There is at least one place where you can do this without damaging your wallet and without any consequences for your stomach (of course, unless you have a super-sensitive gastrointestinal tract, then I generally recommend being more careful with Mexican dishes).
Of course, the cheapest way to buy food is at street stalls – the most common places to eat. I categorically do not recommend doing this, but if you are an extreme person or want to immerse yourself in the life of an ordinary Mexican, then, of course, go for it.
If you still do not like to take risks, and your budget, as I already said, is limited, then I recommend you visit a chain of Mexican cuisine cafes called La casa de Toño (literally translated – “House of Toño (Antonio)”). These cafes are only open in Mexico City, in other Mexican regions you will have to look for other budget places.
But in Mexico City there are really a lot of them, and they are scattered throughout each district, so you can always find the closest one available to you. In addition, you can order delivery – for example, in Uber Eats – a popular food delivery service from nearby cafes and restaurants.
