The trilateral agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada (USMCA) is the only way to successfully compete with China. This statement was made by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
“This trade agreement [USMCA] is the only way to successfully counter economic and trade competition with China. North America must consolidate as an economic region that is increasingly independent of imports from other regions of the world,” Sheinbaum’s press service quotes her as saying at an event in the Mexican city of Nuevo Laredo, which borders the United States.
“For this reason, we have always maintained that there is no competition between us, between the three countries (Mexico, the United States and Canada – TASS). On the contrary, we complement each other, and this allows us to be one of the most energetic and important regions in the world,” the Mexican president said.
Sheinbaum noted that the economies of Mexico, the United States and Canada account for 30% of the world’s GDP. According to her, if the northern states of Mexico and the southern states of the United States were considered as one country, they would become the fourth largest economy in the world.
