Mexico seizes largest fentanyl haul in history

Mexican authorities have seized the largest batch of the synthetic drug fentanyl in the country’s history, weighing more than a ton. This was announced by the Minister of Public Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfouch.

“During two different actions led by the Ministry of the Navy, members of the Security Cabinet <…> in the state of Sinaloa, the largest batch of fentanyl in history was seized. More than a ton of fentanyl tablets were detained, two men, and firearms were seized,” Harfouch wrote in X, adding that such actions “will continue until violence in the state of Sinaloa decreases.”

As the President of the Republic, Claudia Sheinbaum, specified during a daily press conference, “we are talking about more than 20 million doses and [worth] almost 8 billion pesos ($394 million – TASS note).”

Earlier, US President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to demand that the Mexican government stop the flow of fentanyl into the US within a few months, “or else he will send American troops into the country.”
